The predecessor of the Department of Materials Engineering (specialty in casting and metal materials and heat treatment) is affiliated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Dalian Institute of Technology. The foundry specialty was founded in 1954, and the metal materials and heat treatment specialty was established in 1958.
In 1984, the Department of Materials Engineering was established. The first dean of the department was Guo Kexin, and the executive deputy director Cao Zhiben. The party organization was temporarily led by the Party General Branch of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
In 2005, the College of Materials Science and Engineering was established. The first dean was Wen Lishi, Executive Dean Zhang Xingguo, and the first Party General Party Secretary Qi Min.
In April 2010, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials and Energy was established. JiaZhenyuanwas the first minister, and Wang Xiaofang was the secretary of the department. The department consists of the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and the School of Energy and Power. The Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering is Lei Mingkai.
In July 2014, the Department of Education reformed. The physical material sciences and engineering institute was run by the dean, Lei Mingkai, and Wang Tongmin, the first party secretary.
2.The History of Professional and Academic Development:
In 1954,Casting was established.
In 1955, the Department of Metal Thermal Processing was divided into the metallurgical heat treatment department and the foundry engineering department, GuoKejun, director of the casting engineering department, and FengGenyuan, director of the metallurgical heat treatment department.
In 1958, the metallographic profession was established (later the professional name changed to metal materials and heat treatment specialty).
In 1981, the first batch of "Foundry" and "Metal Materials and Heat Treatment" disciplines were allowed to set up master's programs.
In 1984, the foundry professional was allowed to establish a doctoral program in two subjects.
In 1991, metal materials and heat treatment specialists were allowed to establish a doctoral program in the second-level discipline.
In 1992, materials science and engineering were allowed to establish a postdoctoral research mobile station.
(In 1993, the majors of the metal materials and heat treatment were allowed to establish doctoral programs.)
In 1999, according to the requirements for the adjustment of undergraduate majors catalogues of universities and colleges throughout the country, the undergraduate majors of casting engineering were changed to material forming and control engineering, and the names of masters and doctoral graduates were changed to material processing projects. The name of undergraduate majors in metal materials and heat treatment was changed to metal materials engineering, and the names of masters and doctoral students were changed to materials science.
In 2001, materials science and engineering were approved for first-level doctoral programs. At present, there are 7 doctoral and master's degrees in two secondary disciplines, namely material physics and chemistry, materials science, material processing engineering, material surface engineering, polymer materials, material connection technology, and non-destructive testing and evaluation of materials.
In 2007, Materials Science and Engineering was approved as a first-level key discipline in Liaoning Province.
In 2008, an intensified Japanese language course on metal materials was created.
In 2010, the material forming and control engineering became the first undergraduate major in the country to pass the accreditation of engineering education, and ranked third in the national A++ professional rankings in 2011.
In 2011, we created Functional Materials. There are currently 4 undergraduate majors, namely material physics, metal materials engineering, material forming and control engineering and functional materials, among which metal materials engineering majors have Japanese language intensification classes.
In 2014, in the first comprehensive undergraduate professional evaluation organized by the Department of Education of Liaoning Province, the metal materials engineering and materials physics majors ranked first in related majors. It ranks first in the ranking of 80 universities in the country that have opened metal materials engineering.
In 2015, the metal material engineering major was identified by the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education as the first batch of undergraduate majors with distinctive characteristics.
